Gozer’s Return
Ghostbusters Augmented Reality Game
For the premiere of Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, Sony Pictures asked me to develop a concept for a mobile augmented reality game in the vein of Pokémon Go. Moving beyond simple capture mechanics, the game design featured deep social elements, allowing players to choose a role that reflected their play style, build their skill trees, and collaborate to trap high-level ghosts.
Key innovations included:
Event-Driven Gameplay: Real-time data integration where weather and local events influenced ghost activity.
Cinematic AR: Advanced occlusion and depth-of-field technology to make ghosts appear to emerge from real-world architecture.
Native Monetization: A sustainable business model featuring sponsored “containment units” and brand partnerships woven into the narrative (e.g., Slimer appearing at vending machines).
